Connie Collins Morgan grew up in a rich culture of French-speaking people in Lafayette, Louisiana. She lived minutes away from the Vermilion Bayou, a magical place that fueled her imagination with enchanting adventures. Firmly rooted in Connie's childhood was a deep passion for literature. This passion led her to a degree in elementary education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Later, Connie graduated from Hollins University in Virginia with an MFA in Children's Literature after completing her thesis, The Cajun I Am. Her first children's story, The Runaway Beignet, published in 2014 by Pelican Publishing Company, earned recognition at Hollins when selected as a finalist for the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Award. In April 2015, The Runaway Beignettopped Pelican’s top 10 best-seller list. Connie’s second children’s book, Hercules on the Bayou, received a “recommended rating” from School Library Connection & reVIEWS+, praisingit as “a delightful blending of Cajun folklore and Greek mythology; bright, colorful illustrations bring the story to life.” Connie’s newest children’s book, The Cajun Fisherman and His Wife, received a Kirkus Review, celebrating the story as a “rollicking rendition, suitable for reading aloud.” Connie teaches school in Middletown, Maryland and has twenty-five years experience in the field of elementary education as a distinguished-ranked educator.
